Yesterday I Visited Musical Minis which is run by Jo Weaving. Jo training is music, having studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama during the 1990s. She moved to Barry in 1996. When she became a mum for the first time in 2003 she realised that, although she still needed an income, Jo didn’t want to return to her previous job in retail. A friend suggested setting up a pre school music group and so Musical Minis South Wales was born. Musical Minis was established in the UK in 1989 and Jo owns the South Wales franchise. Jo and her team run classes in Barry, as well as Bridgend, Pontyclun and Cardiff. Musical Minis is suitable for children from birth upwards. Sessions are structured to include action songs and nursery rhymes, a listening game, story time, percussion and lots of fun. Jo loves running Musical Minis classes, seeing the children enjoy themselves and grow in confidence each week.
At the same time that Jo set up Musical Minis South Wales, she decided to give music teaching ago as well. 14 years later, and Jo has over 20 students on her books who come for weekly lessons learning piano, clarinet, recorder and music theory.
Jo has two children, Jack 14 and Harrison 9 both came along to Musical Minis classes and both learn musical instruments.
