YMCA Barry Gymnastics clubs was established in 1917 and is now the most successful gymnastics club in the Vale of Glamorgan, currently accommodating over 600 members of varying levels and abilities. YMCA Barry provides lessons from toddlers to elite international gymnastics, with highly qualified and passionate coaches giving all children the opportunity to reach their full potential. The classes range from parent and toddler sessions for under 3's, preschool independent classes for 3 - 4 year olds, afterschool lessons for all abilities and ages in female artistic gymnastics, male artistic gymnastics and cheerleading. The club has recently been awarded the 'insport' accreditation from Sport Wales for its work on developing an inclusive club.
YMCA Barry has an excellent development structure where gymnasts compete in grassroot competitions, development competitions and currently have three female gymnasts and six male gymnasts in the Welsh Gymnastics Squad. The club has also been given the status as a Centre of Excellence for Male Artistic Gymnastics. ​Significantly YMCA Barry had three male gymnasts representing Wales at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the club now has two gymnasts on the long list for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Iwan Mepham and Josh Cook. Iwan competed in the 2014 Commonwealth Games and now alongside Josh is completing many trials in order to be selected for the final Commonwealth team for 2018.
