Barry Westend Netball as been established for 10 years, starting back in 2008, as part of a fitness initiative encouraging girls to get fit. It was proposed to create a netball team, should there be enough interest in the sport. It transpired that 16 young ladies turned up regular for training and the team began to become formed. The first league the ladies joined was the Bridgend League which they won, securing a position in Division 6 of the Welsh Netball league. Whilst in this division they found themselves in a 'Playoff' against Barry who were from Division 5, and the West End Ladies team stormed through by winning 54 goals to 13. Being promoted into Division 5 the West End Netball Club went on to win that division as well. The ladies currently play in Division 4 and have 28 players ranging from 16yrs to 45 years old. The ladies love to get together socially and have joined numerous charitable events, raising money for CLIC and Ty Hafen. Throughout this period they have been supported by great sponsorship to aid with kit and equipment, for which the team are eternally grateful. What started out as a group of girls wanting to get fit, has moulded into 10 years of friendships, numerous nights of laughter, and a bond that cannot be broken. A Year in barry wishes them continued success.
